LONDON MARATHON 2013 RESULTS & some news on the Brighton Marathon
Wells City Harriers had some great results in the London Marathon at the weekend and also at the recent Brighton Marathon. There were 6 senior Club members competing in the London event over the traditional 26.2 miles whilst a further 5 juniors contested the Mini-marathon over the final 3 miles of the longer course when they ran as part of a representative south west team. The crowd support on the day was second to none.

We are sorry to inform all that the Club Secretary, Ian Carpenter, died earlier today, Sunday April 7th, in RUH Bath after a battle with cancer. Ian had been Hon. Secretary of the Harriers for the past 3 years and had brought to the task many talents and much enthusiasm, helping to drive forward various initiatives with his usual gusto despite the onset of cancer some time ago. Over the years he has been an active participant competing in or helping out at many Club races, and he was also actively involved in the local Mendip Hash, Triathlon and Cycling Clubs. He will be missed by all of us and remembered as a true gentleman and we send our condolences to his family at this difficult time.
Jane Carpenter and Ian's two girls, Ellie and Lottie wondered if it would be possible for anyone who is planning to come to Ian's funeral to bring any photos of Ian they may have and maybe a short story to go with it printed out. They would like to put these on a board at the Chapel and after in a book. The Funeral should be 12pm at Shepton Mallet (Mendip) Crematorium, Thursday 18th April. Followed (1.30pm) by a Memorial Service at St Mary's in Bruton and then in the Chapel, Bruton for refreshments.
