Wells City Harriers

"A FRIENDLY RUNNING CLUB THAT WELCOMES ATHLETES OF ALL AGES AND ABILITIES"

Harriers made the most of the unseasonably warm conditions of last weeekend when there were a number of standout performances at the 2nd of the Wessex League fixtures and some good efforts also at the tough Exmoor Stagger. At Lytchett Minster we had two Daisy Davies winners! - first in the u11 girls race and then by her namesake in the u17 womens race; and the Harriers also provided the winners of the senior races when Ben Lloyd (still an u20) and new Harrier Helen Southcott both won in great style! Get registered for the 3rd fixture in this League by contacting Graham asap. Meanwhile at the Exmoor Stagger, three of the Harrier senior men were out competing in the latest round of the Somerset Race Series.

 Well done all!

Meanwhile Craig Foley reports from a slightly longer race:

“Last Sunday also saw one of the toughest races in Somerset - the Exmoor Stagger, 16+ miles with over 3600 feet of ascent including the long, slow climb to the highest point in the County, Dunkery Beacon. First Harrier home was Justin Thomas (69th place, 2:37:54), followed by Craig Foley (111th, 2:50:43) and Nick Weaving (138th, 3:03:16). In total there were 234 finishers.

The Stagger was race 17 in the Somerset Series and with just 2 races left, Harrier’s Ali Blaney and Christian Green are leading the Series rankings, with team-mate Harriet Burr in second. Race 18 is the Herepath ‘half’ multi-terrain this coming Sunday (28th) and the final race will be the Brent Knoll 5.5 mile Fell race on Sunday 25th November – Series awards to be made immediately after that race.
