Wells City Harriers

The Wells City Harriers have again been in action this past weekend with strong performances at track and field in the British Athletics Men’s League match as part of the Yeovil Olympiads team at Nottingham. As a consequence the joint team have gained promotion from Division 4 to Division 3. Harriers were also in action at the South West League Cup match at Braunton and results are awaited. Meanwhile the Harrier Tuesday training group saw a few members take up the challenge of a Quadrathon in an hour with Tommy Hummell coming out on top, based on age-grading..

In the British Mens League fixture on Saturday 4th August, there were some standout Harrier performances. U23 Sam Harding was 3rd in the 800m A race in 1.54 and the same position in the 1500m B race in 4.04, whilst. u23 Luke Prior was 3rd in the 1500m A race in 3.58. Sam was also part of the 400m relay team, along with u20 Ollie Thorner, which won in 3.23. 

In the field events, Ollie Thorner cleared 1.85m for 1st in the B string High Jump. The team were 2nd in the match, out of the 6 teams, and have now finished the League in 2nd place overall, behind Tonbridge AC, thus being promoted to Division Three of the national League. Congratulations to all the competitors, team managers and officials that have supported the team effort this season!

We are awaiting the SW League Cup results, and will add them at a later date. If any parent/athlete has any quality  photos from the fixture at Braunton on Sunday 5th please send them to Paul for adding next week..

Meanwhile there was some fun and endeavour shown by the select group that had a go at the Tuesday Quadrathon (7th August). Organised at the Tuesday training session at Millfield, by Senior coach Jon James, with assistance from Ian Eddy, Andrew Pate, Simon Prior and Steve Masters each Harrier competed in the 200m- Long Jump- Shot put- 1500m combination.
