Luke Prior led home a strong Wells City Harrier contingent at the August version of the Yeovilton 5km race last Wednesday (9th August). There were 4 Harriers home in the top ten whilst there were pbs for Dan Maydew, Zoe Kurle & Andy Robinson. The previous night Simon Prior demonstrated that ability runs throughout the family when he swept to victory in a quadrathlon as part of the Tuesday night training programme. Luke Prior finished in a nippy pb time of 15.18 when winning the Yeovilton 5k race, and was backed up by a host of other good performances on the evening – Oliver Dickinson in 5th with 16.03; Pete Grist 7th in 16.06; Jon James in 10th with 16.33; and Chris Green 11th in 16.40.

Meanwhile, the night before at the usual Harrier’s Millfield track Tuesday training session, Jon James arranged for those present to have a go at the quadrathon of events: starting with a 200m sprint, followed by Long Jump, then Shot put and finally a 1500m race – all in the space of an hour!
Not only did we see some great effort by all taking part but for many it was an interesting venture into doing events which took them out of their comfort zone! The results were weighted by an age-grading formula so that the youngsters amongst those taking part didn’t have all the advantage!
Unsurprisingly perhaps, Simon Prior demonstrated his ability to come through the 4 events on top and ran out the clear overall winner - winning three out of the four individual events. Well done Simon, and all that took part. "When's the next one?" as they say.

CALLING ALL HARRIERS of all ages - age 11-71 (or above!) - the next edition of the South of England Road relays takes place on Sunday 24th September at Crystal Palace. Team entries have to be made well in advance (8 September) so please contact team managers at the Harriers or YOAC coaching sessions to indiate your availability for the teams.
The 2007 photo above, and the one below (of the Harrier's V40 & V50 veterans teams) indicate the rich tradition of the Club competing at regional and national level competitions - and in some years winning medals! (Back in 2007 Frank Tickner won individual gold for the fastest time of any senior athlete).
