Wells City Harrier members have followed up their good performances at the recent Wells Fun Runs with a set of track and field , and road running, marks this past week or two. Elise Thorner has continued to excel at a range of events and is still No 1 nationally for u17w steeplechase, Harriers were part of the composite team with Yeovil Olympiads in the 2nd of the seasons South West Track & Field League matches at Exeter on Sunday 4th June and a number of Harriers had great races at the middle distance events, achieving good times and team points. Meanwhile a senior mens team was led home by Ed Stahl at the latest of the Somerset race Series races at Crewkerne, and won the team award. The two Harrier teams for the forthcoming Cotswold Way Relay have now been finalised. This follows on from a successful outing at the recent Wessex Ridgeway Relay where the two teams had good finishes, when team managed by Nick Weaving. At Wessex the two teams finished together in 7th & 8th places out of the 21 teams taking part. At Wessex , the teams covered 100km in total and comprised of Legs 1&2 Nick Weaving & Paul Chadwick; Legs 3&4 Mike Rusca and Jonathan; Legs 5&6 Andy Piepor & Pete Clothier; Legs 7&8 Rachel Glaisher & Gary Tubridy; Legs 9&10 John Glaisher & Justin Thomas; and legs 11&12 Oli Harras with Pete C on 11 and Nick on 12. There was also some Harriers joining in the Mendip Hash teams. The Two teams for the Cotswold relay (103 miles covered) includes some making their debut this year and one (you know who) going in his 20th Cotswold relay race. At the recent Annual awards the Club also recognised the achievement of Andrew Deamer who ran his 10th Cotswold way race last year, and we think now has the fastset cumulative time for the 10 stages. The Harrier teams for the Cotswold Relay: Leg 1 Katrina Prior & Alice Knight Leg 2 John Glaisher & Andrew Pate Leg 3 Mike Bosley & Pete Clothier Leg 4 Justin Thomas & Hywel Thomas Leg 5 Andy Piper & Oli Harras Leg 6 Laura Darby-Jones & Nick Weaving Leg 7 Jo Tibbats & Graham Goldsmid Leg 8 Steve Masters & Simon Carr Leg 9 Pete Darton & Mike Rusca Leg 10 Luke Prior & Paul Chadwick Those who like the hills should note the following local'ish fell races coming up: Tuesday 20th June Beacon Batch (from Burrington inn, Burrington Combe - register in pub) - 5 miles with 1,001 feet of climb to top of Mendips Saturday 1st July Charmouth Challenge - afternoon race - 7.7 miles with 1,903 feet of climb to the top of Golden Cap (highest point on south coast) Harriers that have reports or photos of team members should send their information to Paul by Monday 8pm if we are to get that information into the local Mid-Somerset Series of newspapers for that week. Please include all Harrier/YOAC performance times/marks at the same vent rather than just one or two as we like the reports to cover all.
